Airline Hell

Sun Jun 24, 2007 at 10:04:52 PM PDT

I have been hearing a lot of horror stories on television lately about what a hassle it has become to fly. Well, I had no idea just how bad until it took my husband 48 hours almost just to get out of the country. More below the flip.

Hubby and a business associate had a flight scheduled to leave Tri-Cities Airport in northeast Tennessee on Friday at 4pm going to Detroit and then flying out to Paris and then on to Nice shortly thereafter...can't remember the exact time. His original flight was cancelled due to some mechanical problems so they rerouted him to Atlanta and then he was to fly to Nice directly..not having to fly to Paris at all. The second flight from Tri-Cities was late in getting there (it was going to be a direct turnaround)almost an hour so it put them an hour late in arriving in Atlanta so they missed their flight to Nice. He was then given a hotel voucher for the night and a free meal and rerouted to Vienna, Austria the next day and would then fly to Nice. After waiting for almost 2 hours to get his hotel room, he finally was able to sleep a few hours. He arrived at the airport the next day only to find out that flight had been cancelled too due to mechanical problems...the plane was left on the tarmac all day that day in the Atlanta heat without running the air conditioner any thus messing up the heat sensors or so they told them. Anyway he finally gets another flight that was also an hour late leaving  only to arrive in Vienna as the plane for Nice was boarding and the lady at the ticket desk asked for their ticket and all hubby had to give them was a receipt type thing for the fu*ked up flight..no ticket. The lady said no ticket...no boarding. After a lot of yammering back and forth, she finally issues them a ticket but it's to late...the plane has already left for Vienna. So there they were stuck in the Vienna airport for 8 more hours waiting on a flight to Nice. He called a little while ago and was finally in Nice, tucked safe and sound in bed after over 48 hours of being sent on a wild goose chase. He was absolutely worn out and stressed to the max. He has to leave tomorrow for Leon. This is not the first time this has happened. His last couple of flights have had problems. He has flown for years and never even had a delayed flight other than just a few minutes until about a year ago and now it's almost every flight but nothing as bad as what happened this weekend. He is dreading the flight back already. What's going on with the airlines now?

Wait until I get hold of Delta tomorrow. Hubby has told me to unleash the best I have on them. You cannot do people like this and expect to be paid the prices they charge.

Anyone else have any airline horror stories?
